• ibm'in ürettiği ve dünya tarihinde bir satranç şampiyonunu ^* yenen ilk bilgisayarın ismi. 1996 düzenlenen ilk turnuvayı garry 4-2 kazanmıştı. 1996'dan sonra geliştirilerek 3 dakikada 60 milyar hamleyi gözden geçirebilen bu bilgisayarla kasparov, 1997'de tekrar maç yaptı. yine 6 setten oluşan bu maç sonucunda deep blue kasparov'u 2.5 a karşı 3.5 puanla yenmeyi başarmıştı.
  
  kasparov 2. oyunun 37.be4 hamlesinde deep blue'ya insanlar tarafından müdahale edilerek yardım edildiğini iddia etmişti. çünkü böyle bir durumda bir bilgisayarın 37.qb6 hamlesini yaparak bir piyon kazanma eğiliminde olması bekleniyordu ve bu beklentisi pek çok satranç otoritesi tarafından da onaylanmıştı. fakat ibm bu iddiayı ve kasparov'un yeniden maç önerisini reddederek deep blue projesini sona erdirdi.
