• bir terry pratchett^* saheseri. aglatma potansiyeli en cok olan kitaplarindandir. sam vimes'in ic konusmalari, sehir bekcilerinin tarihcesi, nobby nobbs, lord vetinari ve reg shoe gibi karakterlerin gecmisini aciklamasi ile saglam kabul edilebilecek bir eserdir.
• discworld kitaplarının en "ciddi" olanıdır. tema olarak devrimi seçmiştir pratchett. kitapta özellikle sefillerden yola çıkılarak çeşitili ayaklanma ve devrimlere göndermeler bulunmaktadır. esas olarak insan doğasındaki şiddetten bahseder. sam vimesın kişisel düşünceleri üzerinden kişisel ve toplumsal şiddetin nasıl insanın içindeki dizginlenen bir hayvan, bir dürtü olduğundan bahseder. kitabın asıl ismi nature of the beast (hayvanın doğası) olacakmış ama aynı isimli başka bir kitap olduğundan değiştirilmiş. kitap bu eksen etrafında devrime kuşkulu yaklaşır. insanların idealler, inançlar uğruna değil daha içgüdüsel dürtüler yüzünden savaştığı sonucuna varır ve sam vimes aracılığıyla devrimin kutsanmasını, putlaştırılmasını eleştirir.bu durum hakkındaki güzel bir quote şöyledir :
  
  "don't put your trust in revolutions. they always come around again. that's why they're called revolutions. people die, and nothing changes
  
  kitaptaki devrimin mottosu "truth! justice! freedom!and a hard-boiled egg!"dir. devrimden hemen sonra gerçeğe, adalete ya da özgürlüğe ulaşılmaz ama kaynamış yumurta daha gerçekçi bir hedeftir.

• sam vimes ın bol bol ah nerede o yeni günler diye iç geçirdiği roman. bir discworld kitabı için olması gerektiğinden daha ciddidir ancak ciddiyetin ipinin ucunu hiç kaçmaz kitapta .

  people of side of the people always ended up disappointed , in any case. they found that the people tended not to be greatful or apperciative or forwardthinking or obidient. the people tended to be smallminded and conservative and not very clever and were even distrustful of cleverness. and so , the children of the revulotoin were faced with the age old problem . it wasn t that you had the wrong kind of goverment which was obvious , but that you had the wrong kind of people.
  as soon as you saw people as tings to be measured , they didn t measure up.

• aslında 1974 tarihli starless and bible black albümünde yer alan en çarpıcı king crimson parçalarından biridir. 1998'de çıkan aynı adlı albüm ise 23 kasım 1973'te amsterdam concertgebouw'daki bir konserin arşiv kaydının robert fripp ve david singleton tarafından dijital olarak remaster edilmiş halini içerir.
  
  parçayı robert fripp, richard palmer-james ve john wetton birlikte yazmışlardır. sözler rembrandt'ın aynı adlı tablosunu anlatır ve tam olarak şöyledir:
