  1978 yılının dört temmuz hafta sonundan sonraki salı günü, boston veterans administration clinic'te kadrolu psikiyatrist olarak ilk günümdü. yeni ofisimin duvarına en sevdiğim breughel tablosu “the blind leading the blind” röprodüksiyonunu asıyordum ki resepsiyon alanında bir kargaşa duydum. kısa süre sonra, lekeli üç parça takım giyen darmadağınık bir adam, kolunun altında soldier of fortune dergisiyle odama girdi. çok heyecanlıydı ve akşamdan kaldığı apaçık prtadaydı, o anda bu iri yarı adamla ne yapacağım diye düşündüm. kendisinden oturmasını ve kendisi için ne yapabileceğimi söylemesini istedim.
