  "day in day out" ile açılır. hareketli ama karaktersiz bir şarkıdır. herhangi bir şarkıdır işte. sonra albüm toparlanır neyse ki (sonraki dört şarkı güzeldir -zaten albümün ilk yarısına ikinci yarısından daha az laf edilir müzik çevrelerinde-). kalite yükselir, yükselir ve "glass spider" gelir. kimsenin karaktersiz demeye cesaret edemeyeceği bir şarkıdır. albümün açık ara en iyisi, en bowie kokanıdır. "oh, the glass spider had blue eyes almost like a human's" der bir yerinde. bowie'nin mavi göz metaforunu bilenler bir an gülümserler. "just a one dollar secret" diye yırtınan "87 and cry" da fena şarkı değildir. synth'leri çok aşırı ve uyumsuz gelir kulağa gerçi. kapanış şarkısı "bang bang"dir. albümün en iyilerinden biridir bana kalırsa (bir iggy pop cover'ı olmasının bunda etkisi olabilir). nakarattaki kadın vokaller yerine bowie'nin umursamaz tavırla "bang bang" demesi şarkıyı bin kat daha karizmatik yapabilirmiş tabii.
