• 1981’de almanya’da “fharsthul” adıyla bir punk topluluğu olarak kuruldu.
  
  1986 – 1992 arası çalışmalarına “the lift” adıyla devam etti. bu süreçte ilk albümleri “under the moon” çıktı.
  
  70’lerin anadolu pop rockından etkilenen, türk ve alman müzisyenlerden kurulu topluluk 1996’da “ünlü” adını alarak “son defa” albümünü çıkarttı. o yıl bu albüm öncesi ve sonrası çeşitli remixlerin yer aldığı iki ayrı single daha yayınlandı. 1998’de “kafam” adlı bir single ve “o ve z hikayesi” adlı bir albümün ardından topluluk çalışmalarına son vermiştir.
• inanilmaz kaliteli sound'da albumleri vardi. bir tek kayit kalitesi degil, modern bir yaklasima sahip olan cok az sayidaki turk grubundandilar. belki de tektiler ve belki de su anda hic yok.
• almanyalı bir türk grubu... bence bayağı iyiler... son defa çok iyi bir albüm.. bide o ve z hikayesi var... o çok iyi değil ama idare eder...
• 96 ve 98'de cikarttiklari 2 albümü gözönüne alarak yaptigim üretkenlik ara$tirmasinin neticelerini aktariyorum;

• arama motorlarından haklarında geniş bilgiye, ayrıntıya ulaşmanın hemen hemen imkansız olduğu grup. ünlü diye aransa, zaten ne kadar celebrity sayfası varsa ortaya dökülür, "grup ünlü" şeklinde aransa "...grup, ünlü..." diye akıp giden cümleler çıkar karşınıza. en iyisi ünlü+"grup elemanlarından herhangi (tercihen yabancılardan) birinin adı" formatında arama yapmaktır diye düşünülebilir, ancak bu durumda da çıkacak 20 sonucun yarısından çoğu almancadır. eğer ki son bir denemeyle aynı format googleda türkçe sayfalarda aranırsa da, 6 tane sonuç çıkar, bunların ikisi, biri ek$isozluk, diğeri privatesozluk, olmak üzere sözlükler, ikisi turkrock, diğer ikisi de gazetelerdeki haberlerdir. işte bununla karşı karşıya kalınan an, grubun aslında ünlü olmadığının farkına varılan andır.

• güzel bir "rüya"ydı ve bitti...
  
  geçtiğimiz yıl 12 temmuz günü, direc-t'in almanya konserinde, grubun tayfun'la tanışmasının gösteren bir fotoğrafla karşılaştık... rockstanbulun da bağlantısıyla gruba ulaşıldı. grubun vokalisti tayfun ünlü, bu tanışmadan bir kaç gün sonra, 18 temmuz gecesi radyo d - maximum rock'ta canlı yayına bağlanarak geri dönebileceklerini bizzat belirtti... yılmaz başar babür bu ilk buluşmayı fotoğrafladı, sezen aladağ yaptığı röportajla, dönüşü yüxexes dergisi’nde müjdeledi…
  
  geçen aylar içinde bir çok mekan işletmesiyle yapılan görüşmeler sonucu, verilen kararların doğrultusunda üç konserin duyurusu son 1 ay içersinde gerçekleşti.
  
  adını tek tek sıralayamadığım, bronx pi tayfası ve grubun tv program ve konser ekipman konusunda yardımcı olan herkes ve bunlar arasında bir ünlü fanı olan, muzaffer karataş, ünlü’nün 1 nisan gecesi, bronx pi sahne’de severleriyle buluşmasını sağlamıştır. ancak muzaffer, geçirdiği bir rahatsızlık sonucu mimarı olduğu bu konseri izleyememiştir. (kendisine bir kez daha geçmiş olsun)…
  
  afiş tasarımını gerçekleştiren mazhar bilgiç, eldeki sınırlı malzemeye yeteneğini ekleyerek başarılı bir afiş çalışması çıkartmıştır... blue jean bu buluşma öncesi grupla bir röportaj gerçekleştirmiştir… nurbanu anter şahin ve arkadaşı burcu sarılar, bu buluşmanın basında kültür sanat etkinlikleri köşelerinde yer almasını sağlamıştır…
  
  başta yaren aygen demir olmak üzere dream tv – yüxexes reji ekibi, bu buluşmanın tam öncesinde, 31 mart gecesi grubun severlerine unutulmaz bir canlı performans program yayını gerçekleştirmiştir… cihan emer, bu programın gerçekleşmesi için zamanını ve emeğini harcayan bir başka önemli dost olmuştur… rock fm, desteği ile yine böylesi bir etkinlikte de katkılarını sunmuştur… sezen aladağ, grubun istanbul’a gelen ekibin yarınsa evini açmış, veysel çolak elleriyle elemanlara kahvaltı hazırlamıştır... asiye ceren duran, hazal esen ve yegah küçükyumuk’tan oluşan asistan tayfası iyi ki gene yanımdaydınız… bir şekilde kendimi içinde bulduğum bu ünlü macerasında, bu güzel insanlar ve asiye erkal sayesinde, bu maceranın üzücü ve zor yanlarını unutup, hep güzel anları hatırlayacağım.
  
  grubun bursa konseri alanından beni uzaklaştırıp, güzel bir bursa gecesi yaşatan sonuç grubu ve sevgili menajerleri berna erönder… high out tayfası ve hilal kala (rövanşa geleceğim :)… her ne kadar bir ankara buluşması gerçekleşemediyse de, bu konuda destek veren tarkan gürol, abdullah durgu, hicri bozdağ ve asena özçetin… telwe ve yolcu… orada olsaydık eminim çok eğlenecektik.

• üzerinden yıllar gecmis olmasina ragmen^* o ve z hikayesi kalitesinde bir turkce album cikmamistir; albumdeki "ses (x) tiryakisi" simdiye kadar esine pek rastlanamamis guzellikte turkce bir sarkidir, karakan ile yapilan "one night in istanbul" ilk turkce rap-rock crossoverıdır. kafam'ın da türkiye standartları üzerinde hos bir klibi vardir. tayfun'un turkcesi daha duzgun olsaydi, uzun ömürlü bir grup olurdu ünlü diye düşünüyorum.
• grubun eski davulcusu achim geschwend ünlü'deki hikayesini şöyle anlatmıştır:
  
  "when i was on tour with backbone slide, i received a phone call from the ünlü producer christoph heil who mixed the heinz michael sessions mentioned earlier, when i was with the band frantic. again, the drums programming advantage. the ünlü brothers, tayfun^* and mehmet^*, were alone in the beginning. chris contacted experienced studio musicians. sven stichter from stuttgart germany on guitar, rom heck from bascharage luxembourg on bass guitar, and myself as the drum-loops specialist. i programmed the drums for the demo songs at the orange-studio of andy falke, an old fellow of tayfun and mehmet.
  
  chris landed a deal by convincing people with fairy tales of the large turkish customer potential resident in germany. a budget for a pre-production session was spent in munich at the union studios, where we recorded acoustic drums, guitars, bass and vocals for estarabim, yardim et, buz ve ates and derule. rom and myself spent three days practicing at tayfuns' discothèque cairo before the recordings. we had lots of fun together. i really appreciated to play together with rom, and so did he. we were the ideal groove-team and performed first-takes. i should meet him later in my life! ;-)
  
  i still highly enjoy that drum sound of estarabim. i played the groove slightly before the beat with lots of drive and forced it to sound really aggressive. same for derule, it was a pure battle. well, the pre-production master tape spoke for itself and convinced polygram management to run ünlü with one of its german record companies polydor in hamburg, as well as with the help of the raks holding in turkey. we even kept some pre-production drum tracks for the son defa album recordings later in catsfield england.
  
  1995, it was the time when radical movements burned down houses of foreign families in germany, and the concept of a rock band of 50% turks and 50% germans hits exactly the nail on the head. it was the right time with the right band at the right place. even if ünlü was never interested in politics, this turkish-german friendship concept turned out to be ünlü's sales pitch at tv stations like ard, deutsche welle, viva and mtv in the beginning. we spent three weeks at england's south coast in park gate studios in catsfield in the neighborhood of paul mccartney. doug our assistant technician was incredibly good and helped us a great deal to manage the recording sessions. it was a beautiful hot summer. that's probably the reason why the catsfield recordings sound a bit lazy compared to those of munich. then we performed a video shooting for "estarabim" in istanbul.
  
  raks did an excellent job and started a massive promotion campaign with its own radio and tv stations. they invited the european press to istanbul, where we played a few shows to promote the son defa album. ünlü's promotion plan was very tight and intensive, starting seven o'clock in the morning till late in the night. i learned to deal with it. facing interviews with always the same questions, being polite, rushing from one tv station to next, tons of make up in our faces, hot rest rooms without air condition, dangerous taxi drives through istanbul, fast food catering, screaming kids wherever we arrived. i have to confess that i was a bit overwhelmed by that fuzz. simply because i realized that live as a rock star is 95% promotion work and fairly 5% music. i really missed my drums!
  
  we played a few single shows in turkey, which was very cost intensive due to the fact that ünlü was resident in germany (travel&accommodation). we decided to play tours in germany instead. in turkey, the "on the rocks" tour has been set up and seamed to be a good start. we played together with turkish acts like af and (my wonderful) özlem tekin along the turkish riviera. ali güven, the percussionist of those acts, started a successful solo carrier later. özlem kumrular, a turkish writer, wrote a book about ünlü. i remember she once asked me, if i would like to live in istanbul. i answered that i need to get a job first (just one of those misunderstandings). by the time the ünlü's called me "öğrenci", which is the turkish word for "student". i studied "economics and financial markets" at the "nürtingen's school of business, management, and economics", without any governmental support. that was simply the reason why i continued playing drums. just to afford a living while i was studying. there are basically three things you can do on the road: get drunken, get stoned, or read books. as i already tested all options previously in my live, i finally decided to prepare for my examinations. wherever we where waiting either on an airport, or a plane, or in the bus, or in the hotel lobby, i always spent my time with learning and studying. well, who knows if the odds are finally in your favors? you may probably end up as a successful investment banker ;-)
  
  ünlü did not generate sufficient income, therefore i joined other bands and projects in parallel, like knutschfleck another funny show- (or so called "ndw-cover") band. they were all managed by the same booking agent "medusa" (bell book and candle, fools garden, ünlü, knutschfleck and more). it was just crazy. sometimes i played two shows a day, for two different bands, but on the same open air concert. personally, i was quite busy and even if it was difficult, i was able to handle my studies and could afford a hassle free poor students live. but ünlü did not generate enough turnover and came under pressure.
  
  their strategy, production plans, budget management and people involved did not meet with my understanding of human sense rationality. ünlü wanted to continue with their unsuccessful publisher and record company. but i preferred self-publishing instead, due to our large turkish fan base. ünlü wanted to work with the producer edo zanki. no way for me as zanki owed me money anyway and i preferred to produce on a diy basis. finally, they decided that my attitude does not fit anymore under these circumstances. ünlü initially hired me to play drums in the studio and on stage, hence i have never been a band member contractually. i left the band after the "kafam" video shooting. due to the fact that concert bookings were centralized at medusa by the time, i consequently lost all the other bands and jobs respectively overnight. lesson learned: if you are a musician and you try to diversify your risk of income by playing in multiple bands, it's not worth a penny if they all share the same booking agent! you're better diversify booking agents instead ;-)
  
  i decided to sell my acoustic drumset for some bugs, in order to complete my studies. after i sold my drums, i had enough money for the remaining months at nürtingen's university and tried to bring my body (and mind) in shape. i started to be a real jogging fetishist like those endorphin-marathon-man! i felt that i needed to clean up my body and soul after these years of rock 'n roll. however, i continued with digital recording, played on some electronic drum pads armed with headphones and continued to compose grooves and songs. it was a real pleasure! a few weeks later after i successfully passed the compulsory courses and examinations at nürtingen's university, my mobile rang!!! ...
  
  folks, i really enjoyed playing with ünlü. we were magic on stage. i highly appreciated all those turkish people i met. especially when i left the hotel on my own, jamming some eric clapton songs all night long in jazz-clubs or at kemençe downtown taksim. i had some very fruitful conversations with students and met all kind of music freaks. they were very surprised to meet me as a simple person. well, i basically felt as a visitor of some spinal-tap movie rather than as a turkish rock star. there's obviously a gap between yellow press and reality. a simple, positive and pure native down to earth human being. that's probably what turkish people associate with my person, an authentic picture. i would like to thank thousands of turkish people. nevertheless, i need to mention two characters i'll never forget in my live: özlem tekin and ali güven! may god bless you both! selam ve çok çok tesekkür."
