• odysseus'ta, zihinden acı, üzüntü ve sıkıntıyı atan, mısır'dan gelme bir ilaç olarak bahsi geçen kelimenin orjinali, eski yunanca, "değil" anlamındaki "ne-" ön eki ve "acı, üzüntü" anlamındaki "penthos"^* kelimelerinin birleşmesi ile oluşmuştur. aslında kelimenin sonunda bulunması gereken "s" harfi, bir çoğul eki zannedilerek kullanıma girmemiştir.
