boney m'in bir kadın gangsterin hikâyesini anlattığı eğlenceli şarkısı. aslında boney m’in şarkısındaki sözler gerçek hayattaki hikâyeyi kısmen yansıtır.
şarkıda sözü edilen kadın gangster gerçekte ma lâkabıyla bilinen kate barker adlı dört çocuk annesi bir kadındır. ayrıca karıştırılmasın şarkıda ma baker, gerçekte ma barker'dır. rivayetlerle karışık hayat hikâyesine göre kate barker ve dört oğlu ve ayrıca suç ortakları olan bir adam (alvin karpis) ile beraber ünlü bir çetedirler. aynı dönemin bir diğer efsanevî suç çetesi olan bonnie ve clyde kadar da popülerdirler o zamanlarda. kate ma barker çete lideridir. maaile yıllarca yakalanmadan başta banka ve diğer soygunlar olmak üzere, adam kaçırma, cinayet, hırsızlık gibi sayısız suç işlemişler. servetlerinin dört-beş milyon dolar olduğu tahmin edilir, ki o yıllarda (1920ler) oldukça yüksek bir miktardır.
bana daha gerçekçi gelen başka bazı iddialara göre ma barker’ın doğrudan suç işleme veya çetenin beyni olma gibi bir durumu yoktur. buna göre kate barker çocuklara seyahat, saklanma ve yaşama konularında ihtiyaç duydukları lojistik desteği sağlamaktadır sadece.
şarkının sözlerindeki 'she knew how to die' kısmında ma barker ve oğlunun saklandıkları yerde yakalanınca teslim olmamaları ve girdikleri çatışma sonunda ölü ele geçirilmelerine işaret ediyor. gerek bu çatışmada gerekse başka yerlerde barker aile üyeleri hep çatışmalarda öldürülmüş. kimse sorgulanamadığı için de ma barker’ın işlenen suçlarda ne kadar rolü olduğu her zaman bir sır olarak kalmış sanıyorum.
yine de yaşlı bir kadının fbi tarafından anca ölü ele geçirilebilmesinin de efsanesi üzerinde abartılı bir etki yaratacağını tahmin etmek zor olmasa gerek. -

alman müzik grubu boney m.'in 1977 tarihli ünlü çalışması. grubun love for sale albümünün çıkış single'ıdır. dinlerken pek fark edilmese de, eser, aslında ünlü tunus halk şarkısı sidi mansour'dan esinlenerek bestelenmiştir. şarkı, bir dönem abd'de büyük şöhret kazanan ma barker çetesini anlatmaktadır. ancak nakaratta kulağa daha hoş geldiği için "ma barker" yerine "ma baker" sözü tercih edilmiştir. daddy cool ve rasputin'le beraber boney m.'in imza şarkılarındandır. şarkı, 2000 yılında yeni bir kliple ve remiks versiyonuyla bir kez daha piyasaya sürülmüş ve müzik listelerinde bir kez daha büyük başarı kazanmıştır. sözleri şöyledir;
