• 12 yaşında davul çalmaya başlamış; 21 yaşında jeff beck ile tanışıp süper kariyerine adım atmış kişi. rainbow, michael schenker group, whitesnake, elf, black sabbath, warlock, cinderella... gibi bir çok ünlü grupla çalıştı.jeff beck, gary moore, ronnie james dio, brian may ve daha bir çok kişinin solo kariyerindeki çalışmalara katıldı. kendi solo kariyerinde ise "cozy powells hammer" grubunu kurmuş; ayrıca ilerki yıllarda over the top, the drums are back adlı güzel albümleri yapmıştır... 5 nisan 1998 günü de bir trafik kazasında hayatını kaybetti.

  şahsi görüş: yaptığı bunca başarılı işle ve davul stiliyle beni gerçekten etkilemiş bir kişidir. "ahtapot" lakabını bir çok kişi gibi ben de yakıştırmaktayım kendisine. dinlemek isteyenlere,

• söylentilere göre cenette de davul çalmayı sürdürdüğü için melekler bayağı şikayetçiymiş ama gelin görün ki tanrı zaten onu sadece kendisine çalsın diye yanına aldırmıştı.
• rock aleminde 1972-92 arası, her gruba en azından bir albümde bu şahısla çalışma zorunluluğu getirilmiş, olay kanun hükmünde kararnameyle yasaya bağlanmıştır.
• bırakıp gideli 14 yıl olmuş davul üstadı.
  hatrına çaldığı albümler dinlenecek bu gece evde.
  kendisiyle aynı günde, bir 14 yıl sonra da bir diğer efsane jim marshall onun yanına gitti.
• ölümü, uzun süre beraber çalıştığı brian may'i de derinden etkilemiştir. brian, 1998'de cozy'nin ölümünden hemen sonra piyasaya sürdüğü red special isimli mini albüm bir albüm yayınlamış ve bu albüme koyduğu son parça olan brian talks (a tribute to cozy powell) ile cozy'ye karşı son görevini yapmıştır. girişindeki dinlendirici gitar intro'sunun ardından brian, cozy için duygularını anlatmıştır. 12 yaşındayken bu cd'yi alıp dinlediğimde cozy powell'ın kim olduğuna dair merakım bu konuşmayla başlamıştı.

  sitting here paying tribute to a cozy who is no longer with us, it just does not seem possible
  ı'm sitting on the spot where he so often hammered out incredible drum parts for us

  ıt's impossible to describe what a terrible gap it's going to leave in our lives, our mate cozy not being here
  he was a fantastic support, a fantastic energy and vibe
  he had the most incredible attitude to life which leaked over into everything he did
  ı think for the whole world it was much too soon, he was a wonderful, great drummer
  one of the people who defined a whole style which became part of the mainstream of rock 'n' roll
  and cozy, if you're listening, you were the best, and we all know it
  and god rest you mate - we love you"
• black sabbath grubunun 1990 çıkışlı tyr albümünde tüm klasını konuşturmuş muhteşem davulcu.

• gördüğüm tüm konserlerinde çift kros kullanmış ve keith moon ile beraber bu akımın yaygınlaşmasına öncülük etmiştir.
• david coverdale'in ian paice'ten sonra tarzını en bir çok sevdiği davulcu idi. 1984 monsters of rock konserinde whitesnakeiin kullandığı tema olan commandos fikri powell'dan çıkmıştır.
