  ı used to work in a laundromat specifically ı cleaned and pressed all the collared shirts. there tons ı could say, but remember this:
  
  1 dry heat is your biggest concern!! stop using the dryer
  
  2 cold water wash (not as important for avoiding shrinkage as dryer heat but still will make a difference) wash size has no effect on shrinkage, temperature does. wash all sensitive clothes or clothes you aren't sure about in cold water. cold water will not remove stains nearly as effectively, but it produces the least shrinkage and color bleeding (important for reds -the trickiest of color molecules- as well as vibrant colors and dark clothing).
  
  3 ımmediate stain removal notice a stain, wash that spot immediately by hand. ı can remove 99% of "impossible" chocolate/wine/blood/ink stains ıf ı spot wash it out at a bathroom sink (with a tiny hint of hand soap and warm/hot water then rinsed and reapplied over and over) within seconds of the spill occurring. once a tough stain sets, pretreating (quick scrub with detergent before wash cycle) will help but won't be enough to remove bad stains on a hot water wash, let alone a cold water wash. never dry heat a stained item or it will set the stain forever (in nearly all cases). pre-treat stain and wash it again with warm water, then air dry.
  
  you can air dry all the clothes you are concerned about. do it immediately after the wash to minimize wrinkles. lay to dry things like sweaters that sag when hung. hang most clothes. collared button up shirts hang to dry on a hanger with top 2 buttons buttoned up, quick tug at the bottom and sleeves to minimize wrinkles, fix collar to dry in position. ıron only if tag says can be ironed. less heat is always safer, start with lower heat and no steam slowly increase until you find the lowest temperature that gets the wrinkles out. the more steam and dry heat, the more likely sensitive garments are to shrink or scorch. cotton shrinks, keep an eye out for cotton listed on the tag (some garments are pre-shrunk, but always assume they are not).
