  south bronx cografi bir ifadeden cok kulturel bir cevreyi ima eder. bu sebeple the bronx’in butun guneyi south bronx olarak adlandirilmaz. new york'lular south bronx dediklerinde the bronx’in guney batisina yakin bir bolgeyi kastederler. yankee stadyumu'yla(bu arada ifade etmek isterim ki “yankees suck!”) cross bronx expressway arasinda kalan cevreye ve onun kulturel/fiziki iklimine isaret edilir. ama bu sinirlar cok belirsizdir, nerdeyse cevrede herkesin kendine gore bir south bronx siniri var. ama kesin birsey var ki melrose’daki projectler, simdilerde yenilense bile bir zamanlar sigorta parasi icin sahipleri tarafindan yakilmis mott haven evleri, willis avenue koprusu’nun altindaki “high” mekanlar, venice avenu’nun third avenue’nun etnosantrik club'lari barlari, morris, fordham, grand concourse, bruckner gibi ana caddelere cikan gang dolu sokaklar, graffiti dolu duvarlar ima edilir. bu yuzden de “south bronx” ifadesi iyi seyler animsatmadigindan bolgenin ozellikle emlak sahibi olan yerlileri bu isimlendirmeden pek hazzetmezler, bilmekte yarar var.
  tabii ki bolgeye sohretini kazandiran 70’lerin sonu 90’larin basi arasindaki kaos surecinden(ki jimmy carter burayi amerika’nin en berbat slum’i ilan etmis) gunumuze bayagi bir degisiklik var. emlak fiyatlarinin her gecen gun yukseldigi, suc ve suclu sayisinin azaldigi bir evrim soz konusu. o kadar hizli bir degisim ki bundan birkac yil once south bronx’ta calisirken aydan aya azalan kisisel hirhizlanma istatistigimle ben bile farkedebiliyordum.
  soho’lu sonradan gorme zuppelerin updown diye dalga gectigi sobro, ahbaplarimla, dostlarimla, sevgililerimle, mekanlarimla mahallemdir, evimdir, barkimdir. pek severim.
