• nba'e yeni bir takim geldiginde, bu ekibin diger takimlardan oyuncu toplamasina verilen isim. her takim kadrosundaki 8 oyuncuyu korumaya alabilir (restricted free agentlar dahil). free-agent'lar ve bu 8'in disinda kalan oyuncular ise yeni takim tarafindan secilebilir..
  
  bu yilki uygulama 2004 nba final serisi'nden hemen sonra, charlotte'in yeni takimi bobcats tarafindan uygulanacak.. (bkz: charlotte bobcats)
• bobcats'in 22 haziranda (eğer final serisi yedinci maça uzarsa 23 haziranda) diğer takımların kendisine bildireceği koruma altına almadığı oyuncular arasından toplama yapacağı pek güzel olay. sonrasında nba draftinde 4. sıradan seçim yapacak olan bobcats, expansion draft içinde seçtiği oyuncularla draft sırasında diğer takımlarla takas için de kullanabilecek.
  bu güzide olayı benim hatırladığım daha önce raptors ve grizzlies de gerçekleştirmişti.

  for those who aren't too familiar with the expansion draft, here's a complete
  list of the rules (espn insider).
  
  1) each team can protect up to eight players. even if a team has less than eight
  players to protect, they still must leave at least one player unprotected.
  
  2) the bobcats must select at least 14 players, but no more than 29.
  
  3) the bobcats can select no more than one player from each team.
  
  4) free-agents that are unrestricted aren't eligible for the draft.
  
  5) on draft night, the bobcats can take as many contracts as they want. but when
  the draft is complete, the players that are kept will count towards their salary
  cap.
  
  6) a drafted player's salary does not count against the bobcat's salary cap if
  the player is waived prior to the regular season.
  
  7) if restricted free-agents are drafted, then they automatically become
  unrestricted free-agents.
  
  8 ) other nba teams can try to entice the bobcats to select their unprotected
  players by offering future draft picks, money, or future trade agreements.
  
  9) teams that have a player selected in the draft have the ability to receive a
  trade exception equal to the player’s salary. this way teams can replace a
  drafted player with someone with a similar salary.
  
  the expansion draft is set for june 22, 2004.
