• howard hughes'un yapımcısı olduğu, 1956 tarihli bir dick powell filmi. john wayne'in başrol oynadığı ve sinema tarihine geçen bu film cengiz han'ın cengiz han oluşunu anlatır, büyük bütçeli ama vasat (imdb notu 2,7'ydi bu entry yazılırken) bir filmdir. peki nasıl olup da tarihe geçmiştir, bu da ilginç bir hikayedir.
  
  amerikan ordusu, 1950'lerin başlarında utah çöllerinde nükleer denemeler yapmaktadır. denemeler yer üstünde gerçekleştiği için çöl kumu, olan kalan radyoaktiviteyi yemiştir. bu denemelerden sadece 2-3 yıl sonra utah'a gelen çekim ekibi tehlikenin farkına varır, ama pek de ciddiye almaz. ekip, haftalarca hem sıcakla boğuşmuş hem de radyasyona maruz kalmıştır. daha sonra iç çekimleri tamamlamak için hollywood'a dönerler, ancak howard hughes sonradan çok pişman olacağı bir hareket yaparak tonlarca çöl kumunu da hollywood'a taşıtır ve çekimler yine aynı radyoaktif ortamda devam eder.
  
  sonuç olarak filmin yapımında görev olan 220 kişinin 91'ine ilerleyen yıllarda kanser teşhisi konar. içinde yönetmenin ve başrol oyuncularının da bulunduğu 46 kişi ise kanser sonucu hayata veda eder. howard hughes bu filmden sonra bir daha yapımcılık yapmaz. kimse kendisine dava açmamış olsa bile suçluluk duygusu yüzünden filmi uzun yıllar kimseye izletmez, paranoyanın esiri olup da tek başına yaşadığı zamanlarda dönüp dolaşıp tekrar izler.

  başrol oyuncuları john wayne ve susan hayward film sırasında etkilendikleri radyasyon nedeniyle hayatını kaybetmiştir.
