• out of time albumunun tipki half a world away gibi en basta dikkat cekmeyen bomba sarkilarindan biri. bunun yasattigi manyak havayi cok az sarki barindirir, belkide hic barindirmaz. bandira bandira yenilmelidir. peter buck huzunluce konusturur gitarini ; sanki emprovize takilir ve michael stipein gitara uyumlu vokali, en nihayetinde beni bu sarkinin dort basi mahmur, ve bi okadar da munezzeh bi calisma oldugunda ikna eder, son noktayi kor.
  • (bkz: rem)
    (bkz: out of time)
  • 18 ekim 1998 tarihli bridge school concert'de michael stipe'ın neil young'ı sahneye davet ettikten sonra "this is my particular favourite rem song, this is called country feedback" diye anons edip, neil young ile beraber yorumladıkları, orijinali '91 çıkışlı albüm out of time'da yer alan(normalde 4:07 uzunluğunda olmasına rağmen sahnede 8:50'ye çıkan) rem kaydı.
    this flower is scorched
    this film is on
    on a maddening loop.
    these clothes,
these clothes don't fit us right
    i'm to blame
    it's all the same
    it's all the same

you come to me with a bone in your hand
you come to me with your hair curled tight
you come to me with positions
you come to me with excuses
    ducked out in a row
    you wear me out
    you wear me out

    we've been through fake breakdown
    self hurt
    plastics, collections
    self help, self pain,
    est, psychics, fuck all
    i was central
    i had control
    i lost my head
    i need this
    i need this
    a paper weight, junk garage
    winter rain, a honey pot
crazy, all the lovers have been tagged.
    a hotline, a wanted ad
it's crazy what you could've had
it's crazy what you could've had
it's crazy what you could've had
    i need this
    i need this
  • bundan sonra ne zaman kendimi bunalıma girmiş hissettiğimde "we've been through fake breakdown" dizesini duymak için dinleyebileceğim şarkıdır. "self hurt, self help, self pain" sözleri de bunu rahatlıkla yansıtıyor zaten. evet, acı çekmeyi seviyoruz.
  • mtv unplugged kaydında michael stipe'ın "this is a very sad song, indeed" diyerek sunumunu yaptıgı ve inanılmaz histerik bir şekilde söyledigi mükemmel rem şarkısıdır.
  • stipe'in konserlerde sonuna like a rolling stone*un sozlerinin bir kismini ekledigi sarki. yanilmiyorsam bunu ilk kez bir bob dylan duetinde yapmis sonra da boyle soylemeye devam etmis. sozlerin bu kadar uyumlu olmasi hem sasirtici hem de guzel.

once upon a time you looked so fine
threw the bum a dime in your prime, didn't you?

go to him now, he calls you, you can't refuse
when you've got nothing, you've got nothing to lose
    you're invisible now, you're invisible,
    you've got nothing to conceal
  • elimdeki muhtesem guzellikteki konser kaydinin basindaki sozler ise bizzat rem'in kendi sarkisi chorus and the ring'den alinmistir:
"it's the poison that in measures brings illuminating vision
it's the knowing with a wink that we expect in southern women
it's the wolf that knows which root to dig to save itself
it's the octopus that crawled back to the sea"
  • r.e.m'in en iyi şarkısı.

"when you've got nothing, you've got nothing to lose."
